Colombian Foreign Minister Engaged in High-Level Talks in Washington D.C.

Washington D.C., 21 June 2024 Colombia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luis Gilberto Murillo, conducted high-level meetings in Washington D.C. with key U.S. officials, including Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, and Senior Director for Western Hemisphere Affairs of the National Security Council, Daniel Erikson.


The discussion with Secretary Mayorkas focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation on migration issues. Key topics included Deferred Enforced Departure (DED), a vital relief method for some Colombians in the United States. They also addressed the progress of the Safe Mobility Offices and measures to provide relief for relatives of U.S. citizens.


In his meeting with Director Erikson, Minister Murillo reviewed the progress of the bilateral agenda, focusing on peace initiatives, migration policies, and regional security.


The high-level meetings underscored a shared commitment between Colombia and the United States to foster collaborative efforts towards orderly, regular, and safe migration and strengthening ties between the two nations.
