Colombian Ambassador to the U.S. Strengthens Ties with Authorities, Business Leaders, and the Colombian Diaspora in Florida

Orlando, February 18, 2025 – During a visit to Florida, Ambassador Daniel García-Peña advanced commercial cooperation and expanded opportunities for the Colombian diaspora, engaging with local authorities, business leaders, and the Colombian community while also promoting national art and culture.

Accompanied by Consul General César Felipe González, the Ambassador met with Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings to explore new avenues for collaboration in a region home to more than 350,000 Colombians. He also held discussions with representatives from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando, the Colombo-American Chamber of Commerce of Orlando, and the National Entrepreneur Center. A working breakfast with Colombian entrepreneurs from the technology, education, healthcare, manufacturing, and service sectors provided a platform to assess the state of bilateral relations and identify future opportunities for growth.

The visit also featured “Falling in Love with Colombian Flowers”, an event led by the Colombian Consulate in Orlando, ProColombia, and the private sector at ICON Park to mark Valentine’s Day. Meanwhile, at the Colombian Consulate, the “Galería Colombia” was inaugurated, showcasing the work of Alberto Gómez-Gómez, a distinguished figurative artist with a 44-year career. This new cultural space aims to bring Colombian artistic heritage closer to the community and consular visitors.

The visit concluded with a dialogue with Colombian organizations from Orlando and Tampa, focusing on strengthening community initiatives and fostering greater collaboration. This engagement provided an opportunity to address key concerns and outline strategies to further support the Colombian diaspora in Florida.
