Colombia Gears Up for COP 16: Washington Meeting Unites Regional Ambassadors in Biodiversity Conservation

September 10, 2024

As Colombia prepares to host COP 16 in Cali, Ambassador Daniel García-Peña convened regional ambassadors from Ecuador, Chile, Guatemala, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic as well as representatives from Mexico, Peru, and Panama to discuss Colombia's forward-thinking proposals, central to the conference's agenda.

At COP 16, Colombia is set to champion a comprehensive and regionally inclusive approach to biodiversity conservation and climate action. Recognizing that challenges such as biodiversity loss, climate change, and pollution are global, Colombia emphasizes the need for localized solutions tailored to the unique ecological and cultural contexts of the Americas.

A united front among Latin American nations is crucial to securing the financial commitments to protect our shared environmental wealth. As the world anticipates COP 16, Colombia will lead the global conversation on biodiversity and coordinate efforts to achieve sustainable and lasting solutions in global climate action at COP 16 and beyond.
