Ambassador Daniel García-Peña Jaramillo is a distinguished Colombian historian and academic with vast experience in peacebuilding, international relations, and journalism. He holds a Master's degree in Latin American Political Studies from the National University of Colombia and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and History from Belmont Abbey College in the United States.

Son of a Colombian diplomat, he spent his childhood and adolescence in the United States. Upon returning to Colombia he taught for many years in the country’s most prestigious universities, particularly the National University of Colombia, where he has specialized in US History and Foreign Policy. His scholarly work also includes numerous publications on conflict resolution, peace processes, and political analysis, underscoring his intellectual contributions to understanding and fostering peace.

 

Throughout his illustrious career, Ambassador García-Peña has held numerous positions that have significantly contributed to Colombia's foreign policy. Notably, from 2012 to 2015, he served as the Consul General of Colombia in Paris, where his tenure was marked by a deep engagement with the Colombian diaspora and efforts to promote Colombia's cultural and economic interests in France.

Ambassador García-Peña's extensive experience in peace processes is exemplified by his role as High Commissioner for Peace at the Presidency of the Republic of Colombia from 1995 to 1998. He has been instrumental in various capacities of peacebuilding, including founding and directing Planeta Paz, an organization dedicated to supporting grass root participation in Colombia's peace efforts.

His distinguished career in journalism as a columnist for El Espectador has earned him accolades, including the prestigious Simón Bolívar Journalism Award for Best Column of the Year in 2011. His columns provide insightful analyses of Colombian politics and international affairs, reflecting his deep understanding of global dynamics.​​​​
