The U.S. Congress has an important opportunity to consider and approve the U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement without further delay. The agreement is of vital economic importance to both the United States and Colombia, as well as the greater Latin American region and the entire Western Hemisphere. The economic arguments in favor of the agreement are clear, as the free trade agreement (FTA) will ensure Colombian goods continued duty-free access to the U.S. market, and provide to U.S. exporters the same benefits. In addition, the FTA would help to solidify the already strong diplomatic ties between the United States and Colombia and generate additional social and political progress in the region.
Unfortunately, despite the diplomatic and economic significance of the agreement, it has yet to be considered by the U.S. Congress. We need your help to reach out to your Member of Congress and Senators to urge them to consider and approve the FTA.  

  1. Learn the Facts!
  2. Fax a letter to your Member of Congress and Senators reminding them of the importance of trade with Colombia to your state. For key state-by-state statistics to include in your letters visit www.tradeagreements.gov.
  3. Call your Member of Congress and Senators to urge for their support of the FTA and approval of the agreement without further delay.
  4. Ask your Member of Congress a question during a local townhall meeting.
  5. Send a letter to the editor of your local newspaper to stress the need for congressional approval of the FTA.
  6. Tell your friends and colleagues to do the same!
